Customer Profile

One of the UK’s leading suppliers of electrosurgical accessories including; mono and bipolar instruments, gynaecological and surgical instruments for use within electro surgery and a full range of colposcopy, arthroscopy and laparoscopy electrodes used for cautery.

Application

A surgical instrument that required a rubber protective seal to stretch over the stainless steel mating part where the cable harness was located to protect wiring.

A static seal was required to exclude the ingress of fluids such as saline, water, blood, disinfectants any other fluids associated with a surgical environment. It also needed to be suitable for repeated autoclave sterilisation process for cleaning.

Sealing Challenge

The seal provided needed to totally exclude any potential ingress to avoid damaging the components of the surgical tool to maintain full functionality. The materials used needed to be fully compatible with the demands of the Life Sciences industry requirements and have good tear strength in order to stretch for demould and ease of assembly onto the required mating part.

Ceetak Solution

We designed a special sheath/boot profile in an FDA Compliant Silicone material.

Results

The parts were tested by the customer and sealed according to their requirements. Parts are now being used in production quantities.
